The Monterey County Branch of the NAACP

We are a 21st century advocacy organization that fights for the advancement of minority groups by bridging the gaps in seven advocacy areas, including education, economic empowerment, healthcare, criminal justice, civic engagement, international affairs, and poverty issues.
From the ballot box to the classroom, the dedicated workers, organizers, and leaders -- who forged this great organization and maintain its status as a champion of social justice -- fought long and hard to ensure that the voices of African Americans would be heard. For nearly one hundred years, it has been the talent and tenacity of NAACP members that has saved lives and changed many negative aspects of American society.
Welcome to the Monterey County Branch of the NAACP web site.
It is our hope that both our members and the surrounding community benefit from
the information, event listings, and local issues presented on this site.
It is our desire that the Monterey County Branch of the NAACP be active in the community, visible in the media, and a positive force for change and justice for the citizens we serve. We are a small but growing branch with worthy goals and the drive to achieve these goals.
Please take the time to read about us. And thank you for visiting our site. We invite you to visit periodically to check out our activities, events, and the status of the ongoing fight for equality, justice, and freedom.
Ben Jealous will be the next president and CEO of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Jealous, 35, is from Pacific Grove, attended local schools, and graduated in 1990 from York School. He has a Bachelor's degree from Columbia University in New York and a Master's from the University of Oxford in England. He was a Rhodes Scholar and is the only one from Monterey county so far. Jealous is currently president of The Rosenberg Foundation, a grant-making organization that provides economic support to working people in California. Congratulations Ben!
